The Liberal Government has cut funding to the Sea Cadets, Air Cadets, and Army Cadets programs. First and second year recruits will no longer be issued proper dress uniforms. This is an absurd and disrespectful cut to the Cadet programs. More information about the Liberal Government’s budget cut can be found here: CANCDTGEN 029/24 - Canada.ca

Youth Cadet programs provide leadership and community service opportunities for Canadians aged 12-18. These programs are a longstanding tradition in Canada and deserve stable funding. With recruitment numbers for the Canadian Armed Forces plummeting, the Government of Canada should be encouraging and respecting young Canadians who wish to serve their communities and participate in Canada’s longstanding traditions.

We, the undersigned, call upon the Government of Canada to take the following action:

  • Restore funding for all Youth Cadet programs so new Cadet recruits can be issued proper dress uniforms.
  • Consult with local Youth Cadet programs throughout Canada to assess other budgetary challenges.
  • Commit to long-term, stable funding for Youth Cadet programs.
